The 1-euro houses project was created with the intention of addressing the phenomenon of depopulation that has spread to isolated areas such as those in the Municipality of Vergemoli factories.
Since the 1950s, many areas have experienced and are experiencing a process of population decrease. In these areas, in fact, a negative balance between births and deaths has been and is accompanied by a negative migration balance. In marginal territories of the country, the phenomenon of emigration, which began in the years of industrialization, has never ended.
During the same period, the steady decrease in the number of births and the increase in life expectancy have also altered the age structure and brought about an important aging process. This phenomenon, in addition to decreasing the number of the youth population, has also triggered a process of property abandonment.
For this reason, many Italian municipalities have found themselves facing the problem of “ghost towns” composed of now dilapidated and dangerous structures.
For all this, the management of abandoned real estate, both private and public, should not be considered a burden to get rid of, but a resource for cultural, agricultural and tourism development.
Enhancement interventions must prioritize the permanence of existing buildings, with the goal of minimizing transformative interventions in order to preserve the historical and cultural identity of our territory.
We have no need for new construction and new concrete, the strategy to improve the living environment and reappropriate our cultural identity is to revive abandoned small towns or rehabilitate abandoned assets with a history that is our history.
This project aims to raise awareness of the area and its riches and has an interest in bringing abandoned villages back to life.

Bovaio
Alpine pasture located a stone’s throw from San Pellegrinetto and Gallatoio, in the heart of the Apuan Alps Park. Small village still inhabited which hosts a club open on weekends and participating in organizing parties and themed dinners. The structure available is highlighted in the photo below and is equivalent of a part of the house, not exactly half, however a part behind the house is for sale.
