The Contact Center was established on July 4, 2011 and is the direct communication channel between the Civil Defense Department and citizens in ordinary, critical or emergency situations.
II service is available to anyone who wishes to receive information or make reports that concern activities under the Department of Civil Defense’s jurisdiction .
The Contact Center handles citizen requests directly, while it directs reports from institutions, organizations and businesses to the Department’s offices. In the case of inquiries that are not within the Administration’s competence, the citizen may be directed to the appropriate institution or structure.
In particular, the service responds on:
- Risks in the territory and norms of behavior
- National regulations
- Activities and competencies of the Department
- Activities and competencies of the National Civil Defense Service
- Initiatives and outreach materials
The Contact Center is not a simple telephone call-center, but a complex service that integrates several contact tools: the toll-free number 800 840 840, the online form “Write to the Contact Center,” to which are added the certified e-mail address, letter and fax. From October 2020, thanks to thePedius app, deaf people can also contact the toll-free number, free of charge and without intermediaries.
The service operates Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Outside this time slot and on weekends, it is possible to leave a message in the voice mailbox. If necessary, in crisis or emergency situations it is planned to gradually extend the service to full coverage in 24 hours, seven days a week. It is also possible to contact the Department’s Contact Center from abroad by calling 0039 0662289766. There is a charge for this service.
Please note that the Contact Center is an information service for citizens and does not replace the traditional emergency numbers (112, 113, 115,118).
As of October 1, 2020, the Contact Center Service is entrusted to the aCapo Integrated Social Cooperative, which is also the Data Controller. However, data ownership remains with the Department of Civil Defense.
800 840 840 is a toll-free number, also free from cell phones, operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
When the service is closed, there is always an answering machine on which to leave a message and one’s contact details to be called back. The message box is also activated when all operators are busy.
In a crisis or emergency situation, the Contact Center can remain open every day with progressive hourly extensions up to h24. Hourly extensions will be communicated on this site.
It is also possible to contact the Department’s Contact Center from abroad by calling 0039 0662289766. There is a charge for this service.
