Description
There are two churches in the town of Vergemoli, one of which is the Church of St. Quirico and St. Giulitta Martyrs.
Included as early as 10th-century documents, it is among the oldest churches subject to the parish of Gallicano. The original Romanesque structure has undergone various modifications and reconstructions over time. The first intervention occurred at the end of the 15th century, the second and most incisive occurred in 1638, which brought the church to a radical change.
Of the first intervention a clear trace remains in the two portals, during the second intervention a decorative renovation of the interior was carried out, which became three-aisled with Ionic columns and capitals.
The works include the pulpit from the Castelnuovo Suffrage Church and the wooden statue of the Madonna and Child, which bears the date 1514.
On the opposite side of the parish church, on the north side of the village, is another religious building: the church of St. Anthony preceded by an elegant portico.
